Networking Tips

"The Queen of Networking", Andrea Nierenberg offers these tips for proper etiquette when attending a networking event or meeting:

Arrive on time or even early.

Place your name tag on your right-hand lapel.

Exchange business cards with ease - place yours in your right pocket, place cards you receive in your left pocket.

Make eye contact and keep it throughout your conversation.

Shake hands firmly.

Be aware of and respect others' personal space.

Welcome others into your conversation with grace.

Exit a conversation politely.

DON'T eat and carry on a conversation.

Drink non-alcoholic beverages without ice.

Get it Right - Networking

Does the idea of networking convey to you thoughts of:

  • Insincere handshaking
  • Passing/tossing of business cards
  • Empty promises or rejection?

Well, that has changed! The new-way-to-network means:

  • Developing meaningful relationships
  • Sharing information and listening intently to others
  • Giving to others without expecting anything in return (but you will receive, really!)

At Charlotte Transition Specialists, we believe in networking for life, not just when you need a job. We will share our networking strategies with you. We’ll even shadow you at a networking event. All you’ll need to do is buy the breath mints!
